Bay Harbor Islands is a quiet, upscale residential town situated on two islands between the mainland and the barrier islands. It is known for its small-town feel, excellent schools, and proximity to luxury shopping.
A Brief History
The town was incorporated in 1947 after Shepard Broad acquired the mangrove islands for development. In 1951, the construction of the Broad Causeway connected the islands to the mainland, facilitating growth. The municipality was officially created by the Florida Legislature in 1953. It has since maintained a distinct separation between its multi-family residential zones and its business districts.
