Boca Raton is a prominent city known for its Mediterranean-style architecture, upscale shopping, and high quality of life. It balances a thriving business environment with extensive park systems and beautiful Atlantic beaches.
A Brief History
The city's name is derived from the Spanish term 'boca de ratones,' which appeared on early maps and referred to sharp rocks that could damage ship cables. Captain Thomas Moore Rickards became the first settler in the 1880s, and the Florida East Coast Railway arrived in 1895 to spur development. The town was officially incorporated in the early 20th century after the improvement of the local inlet. It has since grown from a small settlement of 18 people into a major urban center in Palm Beach County.
