Fisher Island is a highly exclusive, gated residential community located on a private island just off the coast of Miami. It is accessible only by ferry, helicopter, or private boat and is known for its extreme wealth and privacy.
A Brief History
The land was originally purchased in 1918 by Dana A. Dorsey, Florida's first Black millionaire, who envisioned it as a resort destination. In 1919, he sold the property to automotive pioneer Carl G. Fisher. The island was physically separated from the mainland in 1906 by the creation of the Government Cut shipping channel. It has since evolved into a private enclave for some of the wealthiest residents in the United States.
